Amal Dunqul
Amal Dunqul was born in Upper Egypt to a family deeply rooted in Al-Azhar traditions. He was profoundly influenced by his father’s culture, who instilled in him a love for poetry before passing away when Amal was still young—an event that left a lasting mark of melancholy on his personality and works.
After high school, he moved to Cairo and eventually left his literary studies to work in various jobs. However, he remained deeply immersed in poetry, influenced by the shock of urban life while drawing inspiration from Arab heritage.
He lived through pivotal political events, such as the 1967 Naksa and the Peace Treaty, expressing them in his renowned poems like “Crying Before Zarqa al-Yamama” and “Do Not Reconcile.” Through these works, he became a voice echoing the conscience and causes of the Egyptian people.
