Ahmed El Khamisi
He is a storyteller and journalist, born in Cairo in 1948. He holds a PhD in Russian Literature from Moscow University, awarded in 1992. He is a member of the Journalists’ Syndicate and the Egyptian Writers’ Union. His journalism career began in 1964, and his short stories were first published in Egyptian magazines that same year. In 1967, great writer Yusuf Idris introduced him to “Al-Katib” magazine.
While studying in Russia, he worked as a reporter for “Al-Ittihad” newspaper and UAE Radio from 1989 to 1998. Later, from Cairo, he was a correspondent for the Beirut-based magazine “Al-Adab” from 2006 to 2009.
He has been honoured by the Arab Writers Union for his role in translating Russian literature into Arabic and was also honoured by the Russian Writers’ Union and “Diwan Al-Arab” magazine.
He won the “Nabil Touma” Syrian Prize for his play “The Mountain” in 2011.
And won the Sawiris Award for his short story collection “Canary” as the best collection among senior author in 2011.
He regularly writes for Egyptian and Arab journalism.
