Born in Majdal/Ashkelon in 1945, after the 1948 Nakba, he and his family were displaced to the Gaza Strip and settled in Khan Younis, where he completed his primary, preparatory, and secondary education. He earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in History in 1970 from Alexandria University. He worked in journalism and pursued no other profession, publishing his stories and political articles in numerous Arab magazines and newspapers. He holds British citizenship and resides in London.
