Kamal Chowdhury occupies a special place in the world of contemporary Bengali poetry due to his unique style and prolific output on a variety of subjects. Over the past four decades, the poet has published sixteen poetry collections through which he has explored the depths of poetry in all its forms. The book before us presents an exclusive collection of his work, featuring 125 selected poems from ten of his poetry collections, translated into Arabic by Mohamed Dabbajeh.
For the poet, these poems are as much a journey of self-discovery as they are an exploration of joy, sorrow, fears, and motivations. They also delve into themes of life and death, humanity and nature. The poems take the reader on a journey through Bangladesh—its present and past—its humble homes, rice fields, riverbanks, cities, and towns, and go even further, reaching the deserts of Egypt, the savannas of Kenya, or some corner in Europe or North America.
