Hussein Tawfiq is a young boy living in the Maadi neighborhood, who forms a gang of youngsters to assassinate British occupation soldiers in Egypt. Later, he meets Anwar El-Sadat, an army officer who reintroduces him to the principles of patriotism and pushes him to target Egyptian politicians.
The small organization succeeds in assassinating Amin Osman, and Tawfiq is smuggled to Syria to establish another group through which he attempts to assassinate the head of state. He is sentenced to death but survives thanks to a coup against the Syrian regime, only to return to Egypt, where he tries to assassinate President Abdel Nasser and is arrested, receiving a life sentence. There, he discovers that he was always merely a tool for other powers, used in the name of patriotism.
