After her father’s death, 18-year-old Lykken is forced to move with her mother and younger brother, Kyle, from Texas to Michigan to start a new life, despite her initial reluctance. There, she meets Will Cooper, her handsome neighbor who is caring for his younger brother, Calder, after their parents’ passing, juggling work and studies to support them.

Lykken and Will quickly develop an attraction, especially after she discovers his passion for slam poetry. The biggest surprise comes on her first day of school when she learns that Will is her new poetry teacher.
